Treasurer | CPA

Mark grew up in Capetown, South Africa, living there until 1976, when increasing political upheaval prompted a move with his young family to Toronto. Trained in accounting, Mark worked as a controller for a major real estate developer in South Africa and then a large Canadian corporation.

In 1984, he moved to Menlo Park to join Wain, Samuel & Co. CPAs, rising to partner before branching off on his own in 2009.

Mark’s relationship with SCORES began in 2004, through his involvement with San Francisco Bay Task Force ‘94, a non-profit that succeeded in bringing World Cup Soccer to the Bay Area. Following the Cup, the organization raised funds to support local soccer programs, making substantial gifts to SCORES.

So when Colin Schmidt, SCORES’ longterm executive director asked if Mark would join the board as Treasurer, Mark was thrilled to join. “The pairing of soccer with literacy is brilliant  because education is such a lynchpin for success,  Mark says. “SCORES gives kids a sense of  identity, fulfillment, and promise, which will stand them in good stead for the rest of their lives.”
