Airbnb Senior Data Scientist

Andrea Bonilla grew up in Fremont, the daughter of an electrical engineer and an accountant from Latin America who revered education, especially math and STEM classes. That early emphasis on numbers laid the foundation for Andrea’s path to becoming a data scientist at Airbnb. Along the way, she earned degrees from Columbia University and UC Berkeley.

Andrea first volunteered with SCORES as a referee for New York SCORES while she was in college, taking the subway to a nearby elementary school on Fridays and Saturdays. By 2021, she was back in the Bay Area, living in San Francisco and feeling restrained by the limitations of the pandemic. “I thought I should do something positive for society,” she says. SCORES' emphasis on soccer and education dovetailed with her passions. She grew up playing multiple sports but focused on soccer. After contacting Bay Area SCORES, she joined the SCORES Leadership Council (SLC), a group geared toward early career professionals. In 2024, Andrea joined the SCORES Executive Board and began helping the organization optimize its tech strategy.

Andrea loves to read, especially historical nonfiction, though she switches to fiction when a recent history read has been notably bleak. “I love learning about different places and times in history. My dad is a movie buff, and he used to make us watch documentaries once a week. “He would always say you need to be educated in the world.”
