Alberto Hernandez

San Jose Program Manager

Born and raised on the east side of San Jose, Alberto Hernandez comes from a family deeply rooted in education. His grandfather was a professor in El Salvador before the civil war led the family to the U.S., and both his parents are teachers.

Despite initially resisting the family tradition by pursuing business studies, Alberto discovered his passion for working with kids when he began working in after-school programming. It was clear he could make an impact. He changed course, earning a BA in Liberal Studies at San Jose State. He joined SCORES as the San Jose Program Manager in 2025 and is concurrently pursuing a master's degree in academic counseling.

"I like to see myself as a guide," Alberto says. "I was lucky enough to have support from my parents and grandfather. I feel like it's my calling to get this opportunity for people in my community." A key part of that opportunity is creating soccer pathways for kids in underresourced neighborhoods like his home community on the east side. “San Jose is a sleeping giant,” he says, with enormous potential for SCORES to bridge economic divides.

In his free time, Alberto loves to play baseball, hike, and travel.
