Program Director in San Rafael and Oakland

Alex Argueta spent his early childhood in Guatemala and moved to San Rafael when he was eight years old. He has vivid memories of those early years and remembers how strikingly different Marin seemed from Guatemala and how uprooted he initially felt from his supportive extended family. “I have memories of seeing extreme poverty in Guatemala and of moving here and seeing something entirely different. The streets were clean, and there were freeways. I’d never seen those before,” he recalls.

Alex attended San Pedro Elementary and Davidson Middle School, both of which are now SCORES schools. As a program director for SCORES in San Rafael and Oakland, Alex is bringing his insider’s knowledge to the work he does with students. Playing soccer has been part of his life since his earliest years and he loves that he’s landed with SCORES.

He’s planning to continue his college studies at the College of Marin next year and aims to earn a teaching credential. One fun detail. He and his colleague Kevin Calderon (who he’s known since childhood) share the same birthday. November 4th!
